Oaxacan wood carving crafts are a fusion between alebrijes and the Zapotec culture.
The Oaxacans mixed their Zapotec roots with the Alebrijes of Pedro Linares, the result is what we know today as Oaxacan Alebrijes.
Animals were present in the Zapotec culture in their ritual calendar and in their belinda, within which they associated a series of deities with animals.
