Oaxacan wood carving crafts are a fusion between alebrijes and the Zapotec culture.

Artisans from Oaxaca mixed their Zapotec roots with the Alebrijes of Pedro Linares, the result is what we know today as Oaxacan Alebrijes.

Animals were very present in the Zapotec culture, in their rituals and their beliefs..
