¡Que viva Yalitza!

What does ‘Guelaguetza’ means?

Well, Guelaguetza has a zapotec origin that means sharing.

Properly, La Guelaguetza is one of the most important festivals of our country, celebrated in the month of july.

This celebration was born in the Pre-Columbian era, the natives paid tribute to the corn goddess: Centéotl, during the time of the conquest and the colony the virgin Del Carmen was the consecrated one, but over time the celebration disappeared.

But in the early 30’s, after a local tragedy the oaxacans bring back the festival to join and comfort the people.

Every year since then, all oaxacan delegations share with the people their dances and crops.
